Youth Advisor
Youth Advisory Committee Member

Youth Advisory Committee members will use their lived experience to guide the design and conduct of the study, ensuring that trans young people have a meaningful voice in how the research is shaped and what it produces.

Eligibility

  • Are aged 16–21 years

  • Are located in Victoria

  • Identify as trans or gender diverse (any gender identity, including non-binary, agender and genderfluid young people)

  • Have lived experience with chest binding

What

Many trans and gender diverse young people use chest binding, which is the process of flattening your chest with a tight top or material.

The Better Binding study aims to learn more about the positive and negative health outcomes associated with chest binding, so that trans and gender diverse young people can bind more confidently, safely, and comfortably.

Time commitment

Total anticipated involvement across the three years of the project will involve around 20-25 meetings.

Renumeration

Participants will receive $50 per hour to recognise their time and contributions.

Upskilling Program
Youth Opportunities Program

The youth opportunities program is a year-long experience where a group of 25 people co-design and produce events for Youth Week in the City – one of Sydney’s biggest celebrations of young people. You’ll be part of a creative, energising team with the power to make something genuinely your own.

Eligibility

  • Ages 15 to 25

  • Live work or study in the City of Sydney local area

What to expect

  • Develop valuable skills: Enhance your teamwork, peer consultation, organisational development, media and communications, marketing and events management skills.

  • Run community programs: Gain the knowledge and confidence to organise and lead community activities.

  • Be an advocate: Influence programming that reflects young people’s needs and contributes to community involvement and acceptance regardless of your identity, social economic standing, intellectual or physical ability.

The survey is on consent and s*x ed, funded by the Australian Government Department of Education to establish the current understanding of young people’s views and experiences on consent and s*x ed.

  • 14 to 18 living in Australia

Media Opportunity
International Day of People with Disability

ABC is partnering with International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) to commission a series of factual stories and content to be published/broadcast across ABC platforms for IDPwD on December 3.

Eligibility

  • Emerging content creators with disability

  • 18+

  • Live in Australia.

  • Must have availability to work on your content between August 2026 and May 2027 if accepted into the program.

Task

When you pitch your story idea you will need to select a format that best suits what you want to do.

The ABC is looking for story ideas that fit the following formats:

  • Video: 2–3-minute short-form video

  • Audio: 2–3-minute audio package

  • Digital article: An 800-word feature article

  • Social media: An Instagram, TikTok or Facebook story, reel or a photo essay

Renumeration

Those chosen to participate in the program will be paid for their work (amount is unspecified)
